
The neighborhod owes its name to the fishmonger´s that Nicolas Vila built in 1804 on the corner of Rivadavia and Emilio Mitre, which was known for its shape as a little horse As every west neighborhood, this one evolved considerably when the railroad arrived in 1857, going through the neighborhood and taking the name of the famous fishmonger´s. The “porteños” used to consider this a place for the weekend, thanks to all the luxurious country houses on Rivadavia avenue. Precisely, it was on one of thouse houses, Ambrosio Placido Lezica´s, that Rivadavia park was born in 1928. The railroad and later the subway would contribute great deal to the development of the neighborhood, one the most residencial these days .
